My Career

A fun journey!

I’ve done a lot of stuff- and most of it has been long-lasting.

Careers I’ve held

Radio DJ - I attended Brown Institute right after high school and interned at some Twin Cities radio stations, but I wasn’t mature enough to launch a career. I’ll come back to this.

Air Force Sergeant -  The maturity I lacked was gained when I joined the Air Force at age 22. I was stationed in Alaska for most of my time and started moonlighting part-time at the Top 40 station in Anchorage. I finished my six years in the Air Force with an honorable discharge.

Radio DJ - Now I was ready! And wow, did I have fun! For three years, I worked on base during the day and worked at the radio station on weekends and quite often during the week. There was a several-month period where I would work 9-6 on base and then 7- midnight on the radio Monday-Friday. When I got out of the Air Force, I continued at that station, was hired full-time, and became the music director.  In 2005, my radio career gave me the chance to work at a station I grew up listening to. I was hired to work afternoons at KCLD in St. Cloud. I also became the station’s music director and assistant program director.

This was also around the time I became a dad, and after a couple of years, I realized radio wasn’t going to cut it financially. I ended my radio career in 2008, but I’d be back.

I took a job with the federal government, but I was miserable for those three months. Fortunately, the Post-9/11 GI Bill was passed during this time, and I was off to college!

I returned to part-time radio work while earning my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and left the industry for good in April 2012.

After graduating from college, I worked for a nonprofit company where the culture was toxic, in part because the CEO was corrupt. I blew the whistle and escaped. That move led me to the work I continue to do to this day:

Healthcare recruitment marketing: I’ve been doing recruitment marketing work for more than a decade. I’m happy with where I am now and don’t plan to find anything new. I’m paid well and get to work from home on a great team.

Adjunct Professor - Also, after I graduated, I was asked to teach a college course, which I’ve done off and on since 2014.
